Today is the opening day at Fenway Park and not too long ago, the military jets that flew over the stadium just flew over my house!

Very, very cool!

Subject:Jessie's 5 Year Well Visit
Time:11:48 am.
Mood: busy.

Yesterday, Steelertony and I took Jessica to her 5 year well visit at the doctor's.  This is the first check up she's had that did not require needles!  No shots for immunizations and no blood drawn for lead tests.  Hooray!

She now weighs 43 pounds and is 43 3/4 inches tall.  (That's about 3 feet, 8 inches tall.)  What's up with that 43/43 stuff?  Tony mentioned that we should play that number.  And then, oddly enough, 43 was one of the numbers in the daily number last night!  Weird!

Anyway, they gave her a hearing test and a vision test and she passed both of them with flying colors.  Then she saw the doctor.  He checked everything - eyes, ears, throat, heart - and she's 100% healthy.  Thank God!

I also got an updated health record to send in to the public school enrollment office so I have to get that faxed over to them.  I'll be getting a letter confirming our school choice next week.  Only 5 more months and then she's off for school.

**sob**  :-(

Subject:Conversation From Friday
Time:2:21 pm.
Mood: good.
I was sweeping the floor in Jessica's room when this exchange took place -

Jessica: You have a broom!  Like Cinderella!  Like a witch!
Me:  You don't think I'm a witch, do you?
Jessica:  No, you're a queen...

Must remember this exchange on those days when she's acting up and I'm about to start acting like a witch!

Subject:And now she is five...
Time:4:37 pm.
Mood: calm.

Jessica turned 5 on March 13th.  I'm still floored by this - where did the time go???  In less than 6 months, she'll be off to kindergarten.  Amazing.  It really does go by so fast...

On the day of her birthday, Tony and I took her to Bertucci's for dinner.  We had the wait staff come over with a slice of cake with a candle in it and sung "Happy Birthday To You".  I think that was the first time she has ever blushed!

Oh, and she doesn't know it yet, but we got her tickets for Sesame Street Live for the end of April.  The seats are in the second row center stage.  So Elmo & Co. will be right in her face!  LOL  We figure while she still likes Sesame Street, we might as well take her!

She had a nice Disney Princess-themed party two days later.  We had a low turn out due to illness, other engagments, furnature delieveriers, etc.  But that was fine - we all had a good time!

Of course, two days later it was St. Patrick's day so we had the mom's over for dinner.  Then we had to prepare for Easter.  Needless to say, we were wiped after all that!  I'm very grateful that things are starting to slow down somewhat.

Friday I spent the day redecorating Jessica's room into a Disney Princess themed room.  I removed a few large toys, put in a new lamp, did wall decor, swapped out her t.v. with the one in our room, etc.  Now she has a lot more room to play in (her bedroom is rather small) and it's utterly girly all over and she LOVES it!  :-)  So, mission accomplished!

Yesterday we spent the day at my sister's in Rhode Island.  We got to see the house that was built for "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition".  It's really nice but, I have to say, it sticks out like a sore thumb.  The houses on either side of them are one-floor Capes.  My sister took a ton of behind the scene photos that she showed us so it will be interesting to see what gets on the air and what doesn't when the episode airs in May.

This was the first time we've been to R.I. with the new car and it was a nice, smooth ride.  After the incident in 2005 with the Volvo, driving to R.I. was very nerve wracking.  (Nothing like having your car die in the middle of the highway to shake you up forever.)  But now with the new Taurus, Tony and I were stress free!

Today we're doing some catching up around the house and then we're watching Wrestlemania tonight.  (Yup, I still watch that stuff - I own stock in the company and its doing VERY well!)

Oh, and we took Jessica for her annual portrait the day after St. Patricks Day and we got the pictures back on Thursday.  I think I stared at the photo for about 5 minutes going "Wow!  She's so grown up!"  I think it also hit me that the next annual photo she's going to have will be the school photo next year.  Yikes!!!!

And that's all from here!

Ciao!

So my sister in Rhode Island calls me to tell me that the house 6 houses down from her is going to be on "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition".  They are going to be filming there all week.  The host's trailer (Ty Pennington, I believe his name is) is parked right in front of her house!

It took them from 6am until about 3pm to film the initial home walk though and interview with the family and then off they went.  The house is being knocked down and they are going to build non-stop around the clock so it will be ready to be revealed on Sunday.

I've told my sister to take lots of pictures!  She is also very grateful that it was the host's trailer and not the crew's port-a-potty that is in front of her house - can't say I blame her!

Subject:Why Steelertony Rocks!
Time:6:19 pm.
Mood: bouncy.
For the first 17 1/2 years of my life, my parents took photos on 35mm slides.  They did not switch to 35mm film until the grandchildren were born.  Just before I got married, my parents took the hundreds upon hundreds of photos they took over the years (1961 to 1987) and separated them and gave them to me and my three other sisters to keep.  One Christmas, Tony got me a slide projector.  We watched the slides one weekend and then they went back into storage where they have been for over 10 years.

Fast forward to yesterday.  Tony bought me digital film scanner.  In a nutshell, you can pass through your slides or negatives and instantly they are digitized onto your PC.  (Like a conventional scanner.)  So now all these photos can now be digitized and burned on disc and, possibly, have prints made.

I have already scanned in an entire reel of photos from the time I was born until I was about 4 years old.

Friggin' A!!!

Thanks Steelertony!!!!!!!!

Subject:Oh, and another thing...
Time:4:12 pm.
Mood: sick.

What is up with people being surprised that Jessica doesn't go to pre-school?  I can't tell you how many times we've been asked during this process what pre-school program she is in now.  When we tell her that she's not and that she's home with me, they are taken aback somewhat.

Pre-school is not manditory in this state and it is my feeling that Jessica will be going to school for about 20 years between grade school, middle school, high school and college that to have one year when she's 4 to just be home and be a kid isn't going to hurt her.

I've taught her to read, she's writing, she knows all her numbers, colors, shapes, days of the week, months of the year, etc.  She also gets along great with other kids she plays with at the playground and at family functions.

The next time someone asks me, I'll say "yes" and that she's in "Jessiesmom Academy".  :-)

**Just to note - I'm not putting down pre-school whatsoever.  Every child and situation is different and I'm sure it works out great for them.  But for our little family, we opted not to send Jessica there. **

All this and I've been battling a head cold for almost a week now.  Friggin' a...

After we dropped off Jessica at my MIL's so we can go to the public school open houses, we had the radio on and what song comes on?  "Another Brick In The Wall" by Pink Floyd.  We couldn't stop laughing!

Mrlittlesister - I figured you would appreciate this being a Pink Floyd fan and all!

Subject:Way overdue post
Time:4:38 pm.
Mood: busy.
Has it really been three months since I did a real entry?  Whoa!  I guess I don't have to say it but I've been busy!

Recapping time!

On Halloween, Jessica dressed up as Cinderella.  When we went trick or treating, one of her shoes, that was a bit too big for her (the lasting sign that she had club foot) kept falling off and she would say "I lost my slipper!"  It made her a very authentic Cinderella!

November was a blur of deep cleaning in the house in preparation for the holidays.  I keep a really clean house but, damn, I do a deep clean and then I really see how clean the house can be!

Then we had Thanksgiving and just like that we kicked into Christmas mode.  From the day after Christmas until the 25th, we were in a flurry of Christmas activities - tree decorating, house decorating, crafts, shopping, Christmas music, baking goodies, tree lightings, parties - even Jessica's first trip on a bus and train to Boston (which she LOVED).  Jessica was really into Christmas this year and we all had a blast!  Tony even gave me a couple of early Christmas gifts - a digital hard drive camcorder (no tapes - records right to an internal hard drive) and a digital picture frame.

Speaking of Tony, he turned the big 4 0 on January 4th and I was able to pull off a surprise party for him!  I was so worried that he would find out but, low and behold, he didn't know and was floored.  He claims he going to get me back.  Lucky me...

Right after Christmas, Jessica was sick - tempature, cough, cold, sore throat.  We had to take her in to the doctor's just so they could make sure that she didn't have strep throat.  (She didn't.)  It took her almost a week to get back to normal and then she was up and at it again.  (Leaving Tony and I exhuasted from having to get up with her in the middle of the night several nights in a row.)

Yesterday, we took her to the dentist for her 6 month check up and cleaning.  She did great!  She sat in the dentist chair all by herself and got a clean bill of dental health.  (No cavities!)  We also found out (something I had suspected) that her two lower baby teeth are getting loose.  According to the dentist, this is a bit early.  Usually, they start losing baby teeth around age 6 and sometimes age 5 but 4 is on the early side.  No matter - I just have to explain to Jessica about losing teeth and the Tooth Fairy.

What is the going rate for a baby tooth these days anyway?  :-)

Well, January is upon us and that means we have to pick her school.  At the end of next week, the public schools are having their open houses and then that Sunday, one of the Catholic schools is having an open house.  We've narrowed it down to two public schools along with a couple of strong maybes on one other one.  I won't bore you with all the details but I'm still finding myself graviting towards a public school over a Catholic school.  But check in with me in a couple of weeks and I'll let you know if my stance is still the same on that.

When we're not busy with Jessica, Tony and I have just been swamped with stuff around the house.  We want to give our computer room a bit of a make over this year that will include a new desk and PC for me and a new filing cabinet.  Our storage cabinet has been overflowing with stuff and we need to just "Clean Sweep" the thing.

Same goes for the 3rd floor.  While we did a great job in 2004 "Clean Sweeping" that floor, as time has gone on, it's being overrun but stuff again.  We need to go through all the storage cubby holes, empty them out and then cherry pick what we want to keep and what we want to toss or donate.  Then we need to give the place a deep clean of its own.

Sigh...  It's always something around here!

All this and I'm currently planning Jessica's birthday which is in March.  All the decorations and invitations are ordered and on the way and I've started working on her birthday video this week.  (Basically, a video set to music recapping the past year.)

Again, it's always something...

And that is the state of me.

For now.

Time:12:48 pm.
Mood: busy.
Almost two months since a real post is waaay too long.

Let's see, let's see...

Our weekend vacation with Jessica was a total blast!  The weather was perfect, the hotel was very, very nice and the park was lots of fun.  Jessica loved having her pictures taken with all the costumed charatures, espcially the Wiggles ones (she hugged them!).  She's STILL talking about the trip and it's been a month and a half since the trip.  Tony thinks we should book it again for next year and I agree.

We might also try to put together another weekend trip to go to Story Land/Santa's Village at some point.  We'll see...

Got the new car last month (a whole month and a half earlier than planned!)  It is SWEET!!!  Very roomy, very powerful (thanks to the bigger engine and all wheel drive).  All we have been hearing from people who see it is "This is a Taurus??"  While it was sad to see the Volvo go, we are excited about having a new, strong and reliable car that is just as stylish (without paying for the Volvo name).

My friend Stephanie got married last month down the Cape.  It was lots of fun!  Everyone looked great and we had a blast at the reception with gttygrl, pawswithclaws and mrlittlesister.  I was able to flex my video editing muscles by putting together a wedding video for Steph and Mike using video taken by a friend as well as the various photos everyone took that day.

Two days later, Tony and I celebrated our 13th anniversary.  Let me tell you, it has gone by so fast!

Beyond all that, things have been low key around here.  I went shopping recently for Jessica's fall/winter clothes and found out that she is no longer in the toddler sizes but in the girls sizes.  *sob*  Where did my baby go??

Believe it or not, all of my shopping for Jessica's Christmas gifts are done.  Everything should be here within the  next two weeks.

I will now duck so I don't get hit by any flying tomatoes...  :-)

What can I say?  I like to get this stuff done and out of the way...

Speaking of Jessica, she's really been getting into reading lately.  She's reading more and more on her own every day.  We're still working on the writing skills but she's getting there.  Meanwhile, Tony and I are still looking into what school to put her in for kindergarten next year.  Where I live, when it comes to public schools, you can actually choose which one you want your child to go to instead of just going to the one that is nearest to your home.  Which isn't so bad but there are 8 different elementary/middle schools in this city so the choices are overwhelming.  In terms of the public schools, we have our eye on one that is really close to where Tony works (a block away).  They have open houses in all the schools in January, which is when they start taking registrations, so we'll be able to see it then.

All that and we have been looking at the possiblity of sending Jessica to a Catholic school.  There are about three of them but they are not in our city.  While we wouln't mind driving her to and from them every day, the issue that I'm having a hard time with is academic performance.  In Massachusetts, the public schools have to meet certain guidelines and goals - results of which are made public.  Catholic schools don't follow the state guidelines but they following the archdiocese's guidelines and their academic performances are not made public.  So I'm not 100% convinced that Jessica could get a better education in a Catholic school than a public school.  We still have a couple more months to decide.  It's just stressful.  I want to be sure that I'm sending Jessica to the right place.

Sigh...

Semi-low key weekend coming up.  Tomorrow night is Crafts/Cards Night with my friends.  (Yes, Gttygrl, you'll be able to watch the Sox game in all of it's 52 inch glory in my living room on the new, cooshy couch complete with reclining seats and massagers!!)  Saturday it's just going to be Tony, Jess and I as Tony is leaving for a work conference on Sunday and won't be back until Wednesday.

Alright, it's lunchtime for the Princess!

Ciao!
